The morning of December, 9th was not in our plan. It took us by a shock that we have never experienced. While watching our historic restaurant burn to the ground, a few long time friends came to be with us, some newer friends, some customers. They came to stand with us, bring us coffee and hugs at a time where hugs are not safe. Our community members came to be with us to help us as our business vaporized in front of our eyes. It hurt.
There were calls, texts, emails reaching out to lend a hand, anywhere any way. We could not answer. Too new, too fresh, too raw. We cried a lot. Not so much for us, but for a critical group of incredible individuals that make Michael’s, Michael’s. Our amazing staff.
Within hours friends implemented Go Fund Me Pages for our staff. Not just one fund but a few. 50/50 Raffles were set up at nearby bars. A portion of sales proceeds was donated by other restaurants and breweries, a fundraiser with two music venues, a silent auction, and raffles set up not by us but by exemplary people who care. It was Christmas.
Professional kitchens were offered and shared with us to fulfill our catering commitments. More than one restaurant offered to give us a place to have our company Christmas party and anything else we needed. Gratis.
A vendor of ours paid our bill and returned our most recent check saying we want to do this. You are paid in full.
The outpouring of support was overwhelming and humbling on so many levels from people and businesses in the best community on the planet. This was not taken for granted. We would never want to be anywhere else. Thank you all.
Onward to 2021, we are all planning for the best year ever to create a fresh new fantastic future, knowing the past is forever behind us, never to be repeated.
